Addi Road Writers’ Festival 2022 is over for another year. All that’s left to do is pack up a few chairs and clean Gumbramorra Hall and the Greek Theatre, although we did most of that last Saturday night as a full moon rose over us.
“I think the real question you have to ask is, why is it that all this volunteer labour is providing this level of essential service and care?” Leong says, gesturing around the Addi Road Food Relief Hub.
Towards the end of 2020 our Food Pantry Manager, Damien Moore, reckoned he’d been working so hard the time had come to drag him away “in a straitjacket singing that Donna Summer song, ‘Enough is Enough (I can’t go on no more!)’. I mean, it has been a pretty full-on year.”

“There’s a lot of low-income people around here in Camperdown, so they will really appreciate having the Food Pantry opening. But you know, I see people in private accommodation that are struggling. There’s people in nice houses and they are finding it hard even to pay their mortgage.”
