Taking our cues from the iconic cover for The Beatles’ Abbey Road, Addi Road has started work on a fresh visual project for the year. We’re kicking it off by celebrating Mardi Gras in Sydney!

Morning tea for all our volunteers. Of course, it is pelting down raining again. So, the annual event is held under cover, appropriately enough inside our Gumbramorra Hall, better-known these days for having been converted into the Addi Road Food Relief Hub. The volunteers know this place inside out.
Dominic Knight is here recording a documentary for his Sunday morning program on ABC Sydney 702. The ex-Chaser man has asked Addi Road CEO Rosanna Barbero for “a royal tour”.
It’s all up to Steve Elphick now to get the truck to Walgett safely, a solid nine-hour drive. It’s already 3pm in Marrickville, Sydney. He will need to stop roadside somewhere tonight before pushing on to Walgett in the morning….

Kim and Hannah are here from Junction Neighbourhood Centre (JNC) filling up a van load of hampers at the Addi Road Food Relief Hub. Both of them have seen a lot with COVID-19 and its impact in the community.
“I think the real question you have to ask is, why is it that all this volunteer labour is providing this level of essential service and care?” Leong says, gesturing around the Addi Road Food Relief Hub.
A coalition of community organisations dedicated to the notion of a basic living wage is being discussed. With a focus on weaving an alliance over the issue with community organisations in swinging seats at the next election.
RedLink are a brilliant organisation working in collaboration with community members associated with the Redfern Towers housing estate. We’re pleased to have connected with them.
