At Wednesday Night Lights many good spirits gather. Brian is one of those people whose life gets ever-longer and more interesting the more you stand around talking to him. A soft and happy presence, he radiates good will wherever he goes.
Young people get it. Their grasp on social justice, equality and diversity is truly inspiring and nowhere was it more obvious than at Addi Road’s ARTivate youth festival, bringing together art and activism for a weekend packed with poetry and postcards, sketching, drawing, live music, good food and of course a dog or two.

Wednesday Night Lights is underway again at Addi Road in Marrickville. Each week our community gathers to enjoy a free hot meal and host of wraparound services.
We’ve heard our friend Richard Weeks is not well at the moment as he takes a little time out to deal with an eye operation. It’s hard to imagine anything stopping him for long.
Therese turns to everyone and speaks by rote, emphasising a phrase that means a lot to her… “To every women and girl in need, a bit of dignity.”

It’s something I really want to talk about and share: how there are all these different people coming to Addi Road; how much it inspires me, especially the powerful women that are around me all the time in this place.”

Breaking Bread, Breaking Barriers: the name kinda says it all… A group of people cooking and preparing meals together to help feed the community, sharing their own stories and learning a few kitchen tricks and tips – as well as helping the environment and improving their own wellbeing and that of many others along the way.
An organisation is, as the word suggests, an organism. And a cellular level examination is necessary to be sure of its historic record and ongoing good health… But where do you factor in loyalty, sharing, laughter, the questing philosophy of a good conversation that is never quite finished, but somehow relevant and inspiring for another day to come?
