Anita Shirley is a Uruguayan artist living and working in Sydney.
Her solo show opens at our Addi Road StirrUp Gallery on Wed 14 September.
Inspired primarily by Impressionist and Abstract Expressionist artists of the twentieth century, Anita works with vivid colours, creating “a world of spontaneity, colours and shapes that arise as the work progresses”.
Anita’s practice revolves around the serendipitous nature of her work, in which “abstract landscapes, cities full of mysteries, passages, tunnels, seas, and people” appear naturally as she paints. Her work invites contemplation, with the forms becoming clearer on closer inspection.
