Two rather grand-looking women are sitting patiently on chairs outside the Addi Road Food Pantry in Marrickville. One has a floral shopping trolley; the other, a few carry bags at her feet overflowing with food. It’s impossible not to want to take a photo of them. But they wave away the opportunity. Then they summon the photographer back to explain why they’d rather not have their picture taken.
Estelle has been volunteering at Addi Road Food Pantry Marrickville for the last year. “It’s been fun,” she says. “The people are nice. There’s such a variety of people from all steps of life who volunteer here … “

Addison Road Community Organisation has re-purposed our Hall as a storage and production centre. Emergency food hampers are being prepared by our volunteer team (pictured) – and will be given to NGO’s to deliver to their most vulnerable and isolated community members who are unable to shop at our Food Pantry.
The demand for affordable groceries is shooting through the roof. Addison Road Community Organisation’s FOOD PANTRY has seen a growth in customers of more than 20% every week for the last month. Food is a basic human right. Hunger is an injustice.
