Tia Mavanie
Mavanie is a BFA graduate from The University of Melbourne, working primarily in sculpture and installation, she explore’s the experience of diaspora and the Other via the intersections of identity, culture, feminism and the natural world.
Mavanie’s practice draws on the act of regeneration and decay, emphasising the interconnectedness of all living beings and the inherent value of the natural world. By integrating the performance of harvesting site-specific, organic, and recycled materials with academic research into her Mesopotamian ancestry, she creates a bridge between the past and the present. This fusion reveals how ancient cultural influences shape both our identity and contemporary existence, while underscoring the lasting impact of indigenous legacies on the modern world.
Through immersive installations, sculpture and interactive experiences, Mavanie aims to create spaces that inspire curiosity and embrace diversity.
Tia Mavanie is located at Hut 37C.
