Our Child and Youth team operates within the core themes of Addi Road; sustainability, human rights, social justice, arts & culture. We ensure all our programs are youth led, and youth informed. We have a deep commitment to recognising the unique skills that young people hold, with our programs employing young people casually to facilitate programs, run workshops, create permanent art installations and more. The Child and Youth team recognise the intersectionality of hardships young people often face, this space is free of ageism, sexism, homophobia, racism, islamophobia, and transphobia. We want to ensure that children and young people feel represented, heard and safe at Addi Road and in the broader community.
Can we have a conversation? Anti-Racism High School Program
Can We Have A Conversation? is a four-hour anti-racism workshop developed by and for young people. Some of its key focus areas include:
• Defining and refining concepts such as race, ethnicity, and culture
• Identifying different types of racism
• Understanding racism in the context of a settler-colonial country
• Navigating and challenging misinformation and disinformation online
• Intervening in racist behaviors, both as someone experiencing racism and as a bystander
Each workshop is capped at 30 students, with two facilitators per classroom to ensure meaningful engagement and discussion.
School Excursions
Addi Road has hosted school excursions and site tours for over 9 years. We think of Addi Road as a Living Museum – a place of historical significance where unique things happen every day. We work with partner organisations to deliver engaging, relevant and exciting school workshops. Please browse the School Excursion Curriculum to find out more about our workshops. Addi Sounds is a professional community recording studio that believes in empowering the youth through the power of creativity, authenticity, and community. More than just a recording studio, Addi Sounds is a cultural hub where young artists of all levels and ages can come to create, collaborate, and grow. We provide an open, inclusive space where imagination and creativity flows freely, where every voice is valued. Whether you're a seasoned musician or just starting out, a podcaster, poet or producer...Addi Sounds supports your journey with professional grade equipment, a nurturing environment, and a team that’s passionate about assisting you in your creative vision. Rooted in authentic self-expression, we champion original voices and real stories. We’re here to amplify what’s true to you. Driven by a deep commitment to community, we host workshops, open mic nights, youth mentorship programs, and collaborative sessions (Addi Sounds Sessions) that bring young people together through music. At Addi Sounds, you're not just booking studio time you’re joining a youth movement built on community, connection and creative freedom.
Youth Gallery
We offer 4, one-week slots throughout the year to young creatives/collectives to hire the Stirrup Gallery space free of charge. We recognise the growing inaccessibility of art spaces and want to do our part in making sure young creatives have a platform to share their work. For gallery hire please complete the EOI or contact our youth team for more information.

ARTIVATE
ARTIVATE is back for another year! Our annual youth week arts and social justice festival will be held on Saturday 26 March 12-5pm at Addi Road. No registration required.
ARTIVATE is a one day, youth-led music, arts, and social justice festival which provides not only a safe space for young people to create, connect, and share their skills, but also one where young people are paid for their work. ARTIVATE includes a range of youth led creative workshops, live music entertainment, and social justice panel discussions. Free meals will be provided to ensure accessibility and foster a welcoming space for full participation. This is youth led & created providing an informed platform for self-expression, skills development, and professional experience, while also building networks of support and mentorship. With spaces for young people to freely share, connect and mobilise around social justice issues they care deeply about - ARTIVATE is a key space in amplifying and fostering youth resistance and activism.
On the day workshops will include; screen printing (bring any clothes, jumpers or tote bags), zine making, collaging, cupcake decorating, painting, bracelet making out of recycled materials and so much more! We will also have youth speakers from the Blak Caucus, Palestinian poets, and a range of other activist spaces discussing collective action, care and creativity. Whilst all of this is happening, youth musicians will be preforming, ending the night with DJ sets.

Youth Collective 4 Social Justice
When spaces for young people to gather, discuss, and mobilise are disappearing, where do we go? The Youth Collective 4 Social Justice came out of collective anger, grief, and --- late 2023. We come together fortnightly to share, create, and care for and with each other. We know it’s a tough time for young people now, with climate change, witnessing a live genocide, and the cost-of-living crisis, we need free, safe spaces to unpack, relearn, and share.
Our collective is on pause for now but stay in the loop via our Instagram and website, we will be back soon.
Previous meet ups have included, a Tatreez workshop (link to ig post), art therapy with Palestinian artist --- (link to ig post)..., healing circle with ---, and general meet ups.
Addi WERK Employment Program
Addi Werk holistically addresses barriers to employment and community participation for LGBTQIA+SB youth, ensuring long-term impact through creation of meaningful career pathways and relevant fee free training opportunities. Within our Addi WERK program is our quick response employment opportunity at Stirrup Cafe.
LGBTQIA+SB unemployed/underemployed youth are welcome to engage with our Stirrup Cafe program. This will include; undertaking an accredited barista course free of charge, being employed at Addi Road Stirrup Cafe, and collectively building opportunities for further career and skill development through Addi Road partners.
Stirrup Cafe will be open on Sundays from 7:00am – 3:00pm during the Organic Food Markets. Purchases made at the Stirrup Cafe go directly towards employing LGBTQIA+SB youth and funding Addi Road youth and child programs.
Little Sprouts Big Change
Little Sprouts Big Change is a project under our Food Justice Juniors program. This program works with children aged 3-12 engaging them in a range of hands-on activities with social justice, food justice, food waste education at the heart of the program.
The program has two sections, our seedlings (3-6) and sprouts (7-12).
