We really appreciate your help for people in need. We can only accept donations from the general public which are non-perishable and unopened.

No. Foods date marked ‘use-by’ must not be sold after this date because the food could pose a health or safety risk.
Examples of foods frequently marked ‘use-by’ include perishables such as ready-to-eat chilled foods like smoked salmon, sliced ham, some small goods and shaved meats. They also include special dietary foods that provide the sole source of nutrition.
Yes. Foods marked ‘best before’ are safe to be consumed after that date provided the food is otherwise fit for human consumption. These foods can be expected to retain their colour, taste, texture and flavour, provided they have been stored correctly.
Examples of foods frequently marked ‘best before’ include canned foods, cereals, biscuits, sauces, chocolate, sugar, flour and frozen foods.
The liability of individuals and businesses that donate food is protected by the Civil Liability Amendment (Food Donations) Act 2005, known as the Good Samaritan Act, as long as they meet certain food safety conditions:
- The food is donated in good faith for a charitable or benevolent purpose
- The food is safe to eat when it leaves the possession or control of the donor
- The donor gives the charity any information it needs to ensure the ongoing safety of the food
Food should be donated in food safe containers that will survive transport and re-distribution and be labelled with any food safety information if required.
No. If you wish to donate food from a private home or residence, we recommend delivering it to us between Monday to Friday, 7am – 2pm. One of our friendly volunteers will be able to help you.
