Addi Moves

Addi Moves is dedicated to addressing inequities in access to evidence-based and trauma-informed health promotion programs for people from migrant refugee backgrounds as well as people experiencing homelessness, food insecurity, mental illness

What We Do

Addi Moves is a free, culturally responsive, and trauma-informed physical activity service supporting individuals who have experienced various forms of trauma. Led by Accredited Exercise Physiologists, our mission is to create a safe and welcoming space where participants can “move their mood” and experience the mental and physical benefits of exercise.

How We Began

Nicknamed the “not gym,” Addi Moves was developed through an extensive co-design process published in 2024 (explainer video) and presented in over 10 countries, including Armenia, Colombia, Indonesia, and Ukraine.

Who We Support

We welcome anyone unable to access community-based exercise programs, including individuals experiencing mental health challenges, gender-based violence, food insecurity, or displacement as refugees or asylum seekers.

Global Expertise

Our team brings significant international experience, including work with the Olympic Refuge Foundation and in contexts of displacement such as the Rohingya refugee crisis in Bangladesh. This expertise informs our trauma-informed practices and our commitment to creating inclusive spaces for healing and recovery through movement.

Our Impact

Since 2022, Addi Moves has delivered over 1,700 exercise sessions and provided 1,000+ placement hours for UNSW Exercise Physiology students. With a 96% rebook rate, we’ve demonstrated the program’s success in building trust, fostering resilience, and improving well-being.

Where We’re Based

Addi Moves is located at the Addison Road Community Centre in Marrickville, a vibrant hub for over 40 community organizations working to create meaningful change.
