Join us for another Journey into Afro-Brazilian Dance and Music for what is sure to be a great night of fun for a good cause. Save the date 19th October at 7pm at the Addison Road Community Center in Marrickville. It will be an unforgettable night!
Come bring your family and friends and join us for Samba de Roda, Forró and Reggae live bands and DJs all night long! There will be Caipirinhas, eating Brazilian BBQ, Pão de queijo, Pastel and live music from bands that will take you on a musical trip through South America and Africa and all to support a good cause: the construction of the cultural space Bantu project in Brazil!
The Project Bantu International Cultural Foundation is a socio-educational and cultural program that uses the Afro-Brazilian art form of Capoeira Angola as a therapeutic intervention to build the behavioral and psychosocial capacities of vulnerable children and adolescents and assist in their recovery from the impact caused by abuse and / or trauma.
Founded by Mestre Roxinho in 1998, the Bantu Project supports at-risk children, whether refugees in Australia, the Philippines and Brazil.
Currently, the Project Bantu program is integrated with the NSW Survivor Survivors Treatment and Rehabilitation Service.
Torture and Trauma (STARTTS), where it has had a strong impact on the lives of hundreds of children in different parts of Australia.
On the Island of Itapatica in Bahia, Brazil, income inequalith and a lack of educational and social support programs have led to increasing numbers of young people becoming involved in drugs, a rise in early pregnancies and involvement in prostitution in order to survive.
The Project Bantu Cultural Center aims to support these young people by providing a safe space for them to not only learn Capoeira Angola as a cultural and socio-educational practice, but will also allow them the opportunity to participate in other activities
such as academic tutorials, vocational training, dances, yoga, cooking classes and a range of others that they can safely earn from.
We firmly believe in Capoeira Angola’s potential as a practice that can offer an important point of reference and a valuable educational contribution to the hundreds of young people we work with around the world!
Help us turn this vision into a reality!
